Rubble Sack Orchard
Mole Valley District Council requested a proposal for their planned Meanwhile Space, in a conservation space covering the Foundry and Church Street sites. They wanted a space that could create a temporary public space, with an opportunity for local community groups to get involved.
Our proposal was to create a Community Urban Orchard, using cheap and effective one-ton sand bags (also known as rubble sacks).
The plan included planting a variety of trees, which could be relocated at the end of the site's use, as well as urban wildflowers and a pergola to provide shade and meeting space.
To encourage communal use, we also proposed skips being converted into mobile planting beds and pallets converted into planters and outdoor furniture.
